Privacy and what is stored

RopeFactor sets no cookies and uses no analytics, advertising or tracking. Loading a page contacts no third party, including font services. This page states what is transmitted or stored when you use the site, where it is kept, and how to have it removed.

Your calculations are not stored on our servers

Job inputs are sent to the server to be calculated and the answer is sent back. They are not written to any database. The one exception is under your control: if you send a feedback report and leave the "attach my current inputs" box ticked, those inputs are stored with the report so the problem can be reproduced. Untick it and only your message is sent.

What is kept in your own browser

These stay on your machine. They are never transmitted to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.

Local storage used by the application
WhatWhy
Your acceptance of the beta noticeSo you are not asked again on every visit. Re-asked when the notice changes, or after 90 days.
The email you enteredPre-filled if the notice is shown again.
Your saved rope libraryThe custom ropes you save, so they are available on your next job.
The job you are working onAutosaved, so closing the tab or reloading does not lose your inputs.

None of this is a cookie, and none of it is used to identify or track you. It is used only to retain your settings and work between sessions.

Beta registration and feedback

During the beta, RopeFactor stores the email address entered at the beta notice, the version of the notice accepted, the acceptance date and the browser family. This information is used for beta communication and to request feedback. It is not sold, rented or shared.

A feedback report stores the message, any email address you include with it, the notice and application versions, and your browser's user-agent string. If the "attach my current inputs" box is left ticked, the job inputs and results are stored with the report so the problem can be reproduced.

To have it removed, use send feedback in the application and choose "Remove my email". The address is deleted from the list, not merely marked — the record kept afterwards is a count and a date, with no address in it.
